Iron deficiency anemia tends to develop slowly, but even
mild cases can interfere with a person’s quality of life.
Common symptoms of IDA can include: (9-11)
Pale skin color
Fatigue
Irritability
Weakness
Shortness of breath
Sore tongue
Brittle nails
Decreased appetite (especially in children)
Headache (frontal)
The diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia is based on symptoms,
medical history, a physical exam, and a complete blood
count (commonly known as a CBC). A CBC is a blood test
used to detect a variety of disorders, including anemia,
infection, and leukemia. (9-11)
WARNING: Hemochromatosis and hemosiderosis are contraindications to iron therapy. Accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6. Keep this product out of reach of children. In case of accidental overdose, call a doctor or poison control center immediately.
